Mt Gambier Masters – Aces Blue – Silver Medal
Great comp each and every year.
Taking a women’s baseball team to this comp has brought a lot of attention. We go to comp and play against majority of men’s teams.
The girls stayed strong + committed to playing baseball, no pity because of gender.
We played 1 of our Aces teams straight off the bat with an 8am start. Girls fought hard and made some great plays and batted as well as they could.Even though we did not win a game, lots of fun was had and friendships made.
Would of been great if a scorer and team manager were designated.A lot of different things done this trip i.e. lucky dip for positions, coach letting players write line-up. Only 1 change made, so well done there to those involved.Again we were given entertainment of base running & trap plays.
Bring on next year.
Mt Gambier – Aces Orange – Silver Medal
Always a great trip, always a well organised tournament. Day 1 was a very early start for Aces B and Laces, Laces getting an early lead. After that the boys settled in and had a good win, batting in a couple of 5 run digs.
Game 2 was a hard game with the Legends, down for most of the game. We rallied late to come away with the win. Some poor pitching early hurt, but the bats came back for a good win.Game 3 was tough. Diamond Dolls are very competitive all round with a few women and some very competitive men. It was another come-from-behind win. It got a bit shaky in the field but we kept our nose in front.
At the end of Day 1 we were 3 and 0. A great effort for a group that had not played together before. We had our pitching staff and batting line-up settled. I struggled with no scorer or manager but with help from other teams we managed to get by.
Day 2 – Game 4
We had Nitro Aces, it was their B grade team we faced, but with the boys full of confidence we batted and defended very well straight off the bat, scoring runs at will. Our best game for the tournament and a good win number 4, so we knew we were heading to the gold medal game.Game 5 against Alberton we didn’t need to win, but I said to the boys it would be great to go undefeated. We had good pitching and great batting with myself and Chris Harris hitting balls over the fence. Another great win.So going straight into the gold game straight after was tough, but what was tougher was facing Norths A team, new pitcher and catcher. It was always going to be hard. We did score a run to save our pants but just didn’t have the answers.
We bat all players every game and made lots of changes so everybody had fun, and hope all my players enjoyed it. Thank you.
L’Aces
The Women’s Masters Invitational is a great opportunity to promote women’s baseball and a great opportunity to get players involved.
We had a great start winning our first two games against Pitch Please and Laces. Things didn’t go our way with injury at the end of Day 1.But we came out to play against Ballin Allstars and faced a very determined team there for one thing “winning”. We played hard but were beaten by a better team in this game and so we made it to the gold medal game.
We gave it a go but Ballin Allstars played hard to the end and we just didn’t have the fire power to go with them, so we finished up with silver.I think it was a great effort to make it to the final but just didn’t have players to finish the job. It was a well organised event so well done Aces/Laces. Thanks to volunteers.
